Spraying Pesticieds

At Colorado Drone Works LLC, our team brings advanced expertise to pesticide spraying, combining years of agricultural experience with the latest drone technology. We utilize high-capacity Argas T50 DJI drones, allowing us to deliver precise, even coverage across fields up to 30 acres per hour—far surpassing traditional methods in both speed and accuracy. Our operators hold all required certifications, including Part 107 drone licenses and qualified supervisor licenses for herbicide and pesticide application, ensuring every job meets rigorous safety and compliance standards. By leveraging aerial application, we help farmers achieve better results with less chemical waste, while minimizing environmental impact and maximizing crop health.

Grasshoppers

Spraying for grasshoppers is essential because these pests can cause significant damage to crops and pastures in a very short period of time. Grasshoppers feed on a wide variety of plants, stripping leaves and stems, which reduces crop yields and can even destroy entire fields if left unchecked. Their populations can explode quickly, especially during warm, dry seasons, making early intervention critical. By applying targeted pesticides with our drones, we can efficiently control grasshopper outbreaks, protect valuable crops, and help ensure a healthy, productive growing season for local farmers.

Weevils

Weevils are a persistent threat to crops like alfalfa and hay, as both adults and larvae feed on plant tissues, reducing yield and quality. The best time to spray for weevils is typically in the early spring, just as temperatures begin to warm and before weevil populations reach their peak. Monitoring fields for signs of weevil activity—such as notched leaves or visible larvae—helps determine the optimal timing. Spraying should be done when weevils are actively feeding but before they cause significant damage, often when the first or second crop of alfalfa is about 6 to 8 inches tall. Using our drones, we can apply pesticides quickly and evenly across fields, ensuring thorough coverage while minimizing disruption to beneficial insects and reducing chemical waste. Timely, targeted spraying is key to effectively managing weevil populations and protecting your crops throughout the growing season.

Aphids

Aphids are a major pest for crops like alfalfa and hay in Western Colorado. These small insects feed by sucking sap from plants, which weakens growth, reduces yields, and can even kill plants if infestations are severe. In addition to direct damage, aphids can spread plant diseases and produce a sticky residue called honeydew, leading to mold growth and lowering crop quality. Because aphids reproduce rapidly, their populations can quickly get out of control, making early detection and timely spraying essential. Effective aphid management not only protects crop health and quality but also helps farmers avoid larger economic losses from reduced yields and forage value.

Western Corn Earworm

The Western Corn Earworm is a highly destructive pest that targets crops like corn, tomatoes, and beans in Western Colorado. In corn, the larvae typically enter at the tip of the ear and feed on developing kernels, causing significant yield loss and leaving the crop vulnerable to mold and secondary pests. Their feeding can make produce unmarketable in other crops as well, boring holes into fruit and vegetables. Because the earworm’s population can build up quickly, it’s crucial to monitor fields closely during the silking stage of corn or when fruit is setting in other crops. Spraying is most effective when timed to coincide with early egg hatch and the presence of young larvae—typically during peak moth flight and silking—before the caterpillars burrow into ears or fruit where they’re harder to control. Regular scouting and timely insecticide applications are key to minimizing damage and protecting crop quality.
